International miner Gem Diamonds has signalled it’s still prepared to proceed with the sale of its Ghaghoo diamond mine in Botswana despite the withdrawal of Vast Mines from its previously agreed transaction.
Vast and Botswana Diamonds reached agreement in August 2021 through special purpose vehicle Okwa Diamonds to acquire the mothballed mine from Gem for $US4M but Vast informed the other parties in February it would not proceed with the deal.
Despite allowing extra time for Botswana Diamonds to find a new funding partner, the original deal lapsed this week. Gem says it’s been told Botswana Diamonds wants to complete the transaction, and it will continue to engage with the company on similar terms.
