Coal of Africa production from its South African coal projects dropped in the March quarter as a result of flooding and a derailment.
Run of mine coal production decreased from 1.15Mt in the December quarter to 911,563t in the March quarter.
Operations at the Vele colliery shut down for three weeks due to flooding, and Coal of Africa declared force majeure at Vele, Mooiplaats and Woestalleen operations due to a derailment on the Matola rail corridor.
Production was also impacted by the depletion of coal reserves at the Vuna colliery.
Flooding and a derailment have impacted Coal of Africa's South African projects in the March quarter.
South African coal miner Coal of Africa is beginning the search for a new chief executive officer after confirmation that current CEO John Wallington will leave the company on May 31.
CoAL says Wallington and the company agreed Wallington’s three-year contract will not be renewed.
Chairman David Brown will be interim CEO for up to six months while a replacement is appointed.

Transnet Freight Rail has told the company it will complete supplementary works and reopen the railway corridor within two weeks.
CoAL says the force majeure will remain in effect until the rail system has reached operating capacity.
