The recent start-up DeGrussa Copper/Gold Project in central Western Australia is expected to produce between 67,000t-71,000t of copper and 49,000oz of gold in the June 2013 year, settling to an annualised steady state 77,000t copper and 34,000oz gold from mid calendar 2013.
That’s when Sandfire Resources’ concentrator is scheduled to reach nameplate capacity of 1.5Mtpa.

Western Australian copper-gold miner Sandfire Resources has been warned it could lose the mining licence for its DeGrussa mine in a dispute over state royalties.
The WA Mines Department demands 7.5% royalty on direct shipping ore as concentrate sold from the mine. The company argues the royalty rate under state regulations should be 5%.
Sandfire expected to pay about $A12M for the December 2012 half year plus $2M for the last DSO sales in H1 2013. The higher rate would cost it another $7M.

Sandfire Resources has signed three more sales contracts as it pursues its strategy of locking-in 85% of production ahead of first commercial production shipments in January from its 100%-owned DeGrussa copper-gold mine in Western Australia.
The company now has four sales contracts, for up to 3-years, in place with international trading companies and smelters.
MD Karl Simich says the company is cementing long-term production and sales arrangements as it completes its production ramp-up.
Sandfire Resources is set to earn up to a 75% interest in the Alford exploration licence in South Australia, signing a farm-in agreement with Argonaut Resources.
North of the historical Moonta/Wallaroo copper district, exploration at Alford is focused on copper, silver, cobalt and gold.
Sandfire will spend an initial $4M over three years to earn a 49% interest in Alford.
Sandfire Resources aims to reach steady-state nameplate production rates by early 2013 following the successful commissioning of the 1.5Mtpa concentrator at its De Grussa copper-gold project in the Peak Hill mineral field, 900km north of Perth in Western Australia.
September quarter contained metal production was 21,181t copper and 6,716oz gold. Sandfire says it’s on target to achieve first concentrate shipment in Q4.

First commissioning ore was introduced into the 1.5Mtpa processing facility by engineering, procurement and construction contractor Abesque. The regrind mill is undergoing final wet commissioning before being introduced into the pre-commissioning process.

The company has signed a $A8M joint venture and strategic investment agreement with copper producer Sandfire Resources. The JV will target all minerals over a broader area now designated the Broader Altia Project, 70km SE of Cloncurry.
