The award by Adani Australia of a $A350M-plus civil construction works contract on the rail network for its Carmichael development in Qld’s Galilee Basin to national design and construction group BMD takes the total of work awarded on the controversial 10Mtpa thermal coal project to over $1B.
BMD will deliver earthworks, drainage, bridges, rail camp and associated road upgrades for one section of the 200km narrow-gauge railway while private contractor Martinus Rail does civil construction for the other section under a $100M contract awarded in Oct 2019.
The new railway will link the greenfields Carmichael mine to existing rail infrastructure, enabling haulage of coal to the Adani-owned and operated Abbot Point export terminal at Bowen.
