World top 5 zinc producer Nexa Resources has suspended production at its 83.48%-owned Cerro Lindo zinc-copper-lead-silver-gold mine in Peru after heavy rainfall and river breaches resulting from cyclone Yaku caused partial flooding of its underground workings.
Nexa says its pumps could not prevent flooding in some lower levels of the mine. Road access to the site 270km SE of Lima has also been affected.
The company aims to resume production within 10-12 days and is reviewing the impact on output at Cerro Lindo, which produces about 233t zinc daily.
